New York: American Securities Service, 1930. First Edition. Staplebound. Fine. Small quarto, [22]pp., illustrated. A fine copy in the publisher's blue stapled wraps. Faint scrunch at the crown, but a clean, lovely example. Very scarce guide to the stock market, published certainly within about two years of the 1929 crash (based on data included in the text, going to about mid-1930). Issued by the American Securities Service, which seems to have been a kind of brokerage firm or advisor for ordinary people to compete in the stock market. Well-illustrated with charts and graphs, and also some good images of hte New York skyline. Curiously, the booklet does not say much about the 1929 crash, possibly because its full effects were not yet experienced, but certainly also to convince the reader that the stock market was still a good place to park your money. Difficult to locate in OCLC - there is likely a copy held in a box of ephemera related to this compay at the Lawrence B RomaineTrade Catalog Collectino at UC Santa Barbara, but we were unable to find any other separately listed copies. Scarce, and certainly in this condition. An interesting volume of business history from the dawn of the Great Depression.
