About This Item
New York: Random House, 1955. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good +/near fine. Octavo, 154pp., illustrated. A crisp, clean copy, very good or better, with a faint dampstain to thebase of the spine, not affecting the interior. In a very good dust jacket, possibly supplied (as there is no corresponding stain), with a few small abrasions and holes. This copy SIGNED and warmly INSCRIBED by Elaine Stritch, who played the character of Grace in the first Broadway production, on the half-title page: "To the Third "love" of my life. Elaine." Though this is mere supposition, we think the rather cryptic but unmistakably warm tone of the inscription suggests that the subject of the inscription may be her co-star in the Broadway production, Phyllis Love, who played the character of Elma Duckworth. Laid-in is a table name card which simply reads "Elaine," possibly from a cast dinner or something. Note that the book is not signed by Inge. Elaine Stritch did not sign many books, and a meaningful signed book such as this one is much harder to come by than a signed photograph.

About Cleveland Book Company
We are proud members of the ABAA.
As a small, independent bookseller in Cleveland, Ohio, I deal in general used, rare, and antiquarian books, autographs, manuscripts, pamphlets, and personal and family papers in all subjects. My family has been in the antiquarian book business since 1971. Are you moving, downsizing, or doing some spring cleaning? Did you inherit or otherwise come into some old books? Or, maybe you've collected modern novels from the last thirty or fifty years. No matter what kinds of books you have, we'd love to take a look at them! We travel throughout Ohio, western Pennsylvania and New York, southern Michigan, and eastern Indiana, and will travel farther in some cases to look at whole libraries or even just a few particularly interesting books. Give us a call at (216) 352-3940 and we can talk more about the kinds of books you have.
