About This Item
Shire Publications Ltd, 1973. Paperback. Used: Acceptable. Paperback in good condition, owners name on first page. Our cover different to one shown. More than most, Burne-Jones has suffered from lack of exposure. Many prejudices have arisen against him since the period of his popularity in the late nineteenth century. In this book, the reader is given an opportunity to reassess this comparatively little-known personality and to see the range of his art. He was not just a pupil of Rossetti, nor just a painter of palely loitering knights and wan sexless girls: he was a discoverer of the depth of the imagination, and he utilised his anguish to create an art of dramatic tensions. About the Author William Waters was educated at Abbey Grammar School, Ramsey, Cambridgeshire, and King's College, Durham University, from which he graduated in zoology. For three years he was assistant curator at Carlisle Art Gallery and then he became senior assistant at the William Morris Gallery. He has written articles on the Pre-Raphaelites and has lectured on nineteenth century painting. ISBN 0-85263-199-5 0852631995.
