From the library of Dr Andrew Selth with his name and chop on front free endpaper, some minor soiling dustjacket. A very good clean copy. The nine chapters in this volume look at many aspects of Burmese life including childhood and adolescence, manhood and occupation, trades and professions, the non Burmese living in Burma including the Shan, Karen, Chin, Chimpaw, Chinese, Indians and Europeans, the politics, festivals and death. Appendices include information of the structure of the Burmese language and Notes on Burmese Music (by P.A. Mariano). First published in London in 1901 this is an attractive reprint with the illustrations clearly reproduced. .
