London, UK: Chatto & Windus, 1960. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good/Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. 244pp, 12 black and white photographic plates. Green cloth-covered boards, gilt titles on black spine label. Bumped spine ends. Slightly cocked. Text block edges sunned and foxing. Front gutter strained. Signed by author on a label in blue pen and pasted to front pastedown 'C Day Lewis.' Previous owner's name and address on front pastedown, and gift inscription on front free endpaper. One of the plates laid-in. Internally neat, clean, bright and tight, barring occasional foxing. Dust jacket in Bordart style sleeve, has small areas of loss at spine head, light shelf wear, chipping to edges, mirrors book damage, price unclipped. Flaps foxed. 8vo. The first volume of Cecil Day Lewis's autobiography covering the period from his birth to 1940.
