The Bulldog Breed, Westerman, Percy F. Published by Blackie and Son Limited, London, Circa 1940. 12mo up to 7½" tall., 320pp.with four illustrated plates by E. Boye Uden. Red cloth boards with black titles to spine and front board; top edge of text-block dyed red. War Time Economy Standard mark. Light ghost mark to endpapers, light outer edge dusting and otherwise volume is in fine condition. Jacket is clipped with a small crease upper front; light dye bleed from boards to very lower edge of spine and back jacket. In very nice, collectible condition.
Percy Francis Westerman (1876 - 1959) was a prolific author of children's literature, many of his books are adventures with military themes. His first book for boys, 'A Lad of Grit', was published in 1908. In the same year, Baden-Powell founded the Scouting movement, which strongly influenced many of Westerman's books - he was a particularly keen supporter of the Sea Scouts.
