About This Item

London: A and C Black, 1929. Cloth. Very Good Indeed/Very Good. 8.5" by 6". Sutton Palmer. A pleasing second edition copy of Geraldine Mitton's charming historical, picturesque and geographical account of the counties of Buckinghamshire and Berkshire; with coloured plates by the renowned English watercolour landscape painter, Sutton Palmer. Geraldine Edith Mitton (G. E. Mitton) was a notable English novelist, biographer and editor, who wrote copious guide-books throughout her career. Harold Sutton Palmer specialised in idyllic rustic landscapes painted in watercolours, with many of his works being included in A & C Black's travel guides (such as this work). Widely praised for his beautiful paintings of Surrey, Berkshire, Devon, The Lake District, and Yorkshire, Sutton's works can now be found in such renowned art galleries as the Victoria and Albert Museum, and also in private collections. Collated, complete with thirty two beautiful coloured plates, and a folding sketch map to the rear of the work. Complete with the uncommon original unclipped dustwrapper. This work is part of 'Black's Popular Series of Colour Books'. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally lovely, with only minor shelfwear to extremities and slight fading to spine. Dustwrapper slightly worn, with slight chipping to extremities and head and tail of joints. Loss to head of rear of wrap and head of spine. Slight rubbing to joints and marking to wrap. Internally firmly bound. Page slightly age toned but bright, with scattered spot to fore edge of the occasional page. Very Good Indeed
