About This Item

New York: Greystone Press, 1941. Very good plus in very good dust jacket.. First edition of this particularly patriotic book about the founding of the United States and the meaning of the flag, as explained by states personified as children. Published at the outbreak of World War II, this title presents a cheerful and too-rosy view of the founding of US, including instructions on how to be patriotic. An interesting book, speaking as many children's books do to the makers' own moral and political ideals. 9'' x 8''. Original red, white, and blue pictorial boards. Original unclipped ($1.00) red, white, and blue pictorial dust jacket. Music-printed endpapers of the Star Spangled Banner. Illustrated throughout in red, white, and blue. [42] pages. Jacket uniformly somewhat toned, with a small chip to lower edge; a few small tape repairs to verso. Binding with mild wear and toning to edges, leaves with occasional foxing to margins. Illustrations sharp.
