London & Glasgow: Blackie & Son, 1903. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Paget, Walter. 384pp plus 32 of publishers' adverts at rear (the adverts themselves are of particular interest as they include sample illustrations from the titles on offer). 8vo. Frontispiece and a further nine full page monochrome plate illustrations by Walter Paget. Navy cloth-covered boards with pictorial colour illustration showing soldier carrying a young girl on front and soldier with sword in hand on spine. Gilt titles. Boards rubbed through at corners and small tears at head and heel of spine. Some mild, old damp marks along front long edge, but not obscuring lettering or pictures. Olive page edges. Internally bright, crisp and clean barring light spotting on bastard title page. A nice. solid, square and tightly bound volume.
