London: 'The Bazaar' Office, 1885. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. undated, likely 1885 (from date in catalog in rear) and assumed perhaps second edition (first 1879/80?) that Dalziel later comprehensively expanded into a 3 volume work published in 1897. Publisher's mauve cloth, decorated in gilt, with silver title front, front cover and spine faded to light brown, professionally rebacked with worn spine missing some cloth laid back down, original yellow polished endpapers, beveled edges, aeg, vii + 495 + 32p L. Upcott Gill catalog No. 1 dated 1885. Copiously illustrated with ethings of dog breeds, internals near fine. We could find only 2 copies of this edition on OCLC. Provenance: from the library of American industrialist W. R. Grace (1832-1904) and first Roman Catholic Mayor of New York City, with his bookplate front pastedown.
