Produced by the editors, along with "the specialist assistance of a body of experts in pronunciation, etymology, definition and modern technical vocabulary. Containing over 60,000 definitions and an extensive section of Reference." Provides a complete vocabulary of the living language. The entries divide naturally into groups of words derived from the same source and allied therefore in meaning; and words within these groups, whose meaning and pronunciation are immediately clear from reference to the key word, are not treated separately. All other derivative words are given full separate pronunciation and definition, especially in those cases where new shades of meaning have arisen or changes of stress occur. "The etymologies, giving the main steps of derivation (or, when the word has remained the same as in the original, the language of origin only) will be found at the end of each groupo, while the suynonyms and antonyms are inclouded separately under selected words...The French nasal, the pronunciation of which cannot be represented in English spelling, is indicated simply, by the combination ng."
