London: G. Routledge & Co., 1858. 17 cm x 11 cm, pp. viii, 247, publisher's adverts. on endpapers and on tipped-in slip, folding frontispiece map, original pictorial boards, complete with half-title. Spine chipped with small 1x1.5 cm. piece lacking, paper covers split at outer joints but inner hinges firm, contents fine. Grandson of the great essayist, Hazlitt, 1834-1913, a prodigious bibliographer and compiler of collected works and reference books. Pp. 1-125, history and description; pp. 126-end, new gold discoveries in the Fraser River area from official accounts and reports of the London Times west coast correspondent, with the text of the 1858 Act creating the colony of British Columbia. Contains a vocabulary of 'Chinook Jargons'. Lowther 73; TPL 3818. Very nice copy of scarce, early account of British Columbia.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good. Small octavo.
