London: John Tallis & Company. Fair with no dust jacket. [c. 1850]. First Edition. Hardcover. No date [c. 1850]. The first volume (Division 1 of 9), this volume covering part of Canada. Engraved title. (10) page list of subscribers + engraved frontispiece of Queen Elizabeth + 2 engraved portraits (Francis Bacon, Sir Walter Raleigh) + engraved title page + xxiv, 168 pages + 4 double page maps with hand-colouring (World Map; British America; Canada, New Brunswick; & Canada.) Maps are by John Tallis & Company. Page dimensions: 279 x 185mm. The maps are generally in good condition. The verso of the plate of Sir Walter Raleigh and the verso of one page of the world map have heavy old damp and mould stains, not affecting the recto of the map. Some mould stains to margins of engraved plates. Cloth boards rubbed and worn and stained. Corners bumped and bruised. A few wrinkles to cloth. 1/4" missing to cloth at ends of spine. Moderate old mould stains to margins of endpapers. Text leaves in good condition. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall .
