About This Item
London/Geneva: Heron Books, no date for this edition but certainly1960s. VG. Hardcover. No DW as published in this special edition. 368pp. Size: 8vo - over 7 3/4 " - 9". No annotations or inscriptions. Good condition faux leather cover with gilt decoration, decorative end pages, Pages clean and white. Place marker silk ribbon in place. Excellent sized print. Gilt titles on spine. Original frontispiece drawing of Priestley (complete with pipe!) by Daniel Briffaud. A chance post-WWII meeting takes film writer Gregory Dawson back in time to the lost world of his youth, and the close-knit Yorkshire community in which he grew up during the last golden summers before the slaughter of World War I. This was Priestley's own favourite among his novels and is reckoned by many critics (including the writer of this item!) to be his best. An excellent example of the handsome books which Heron printed in Switzerland in the 1960s. Would make a fine gift. .
