About This Item

New York: Simon and Schuster, 2022. Signed and dated 9/17/22 by the author on the title page. First edition / First printing. Black paper-covered spine, black paper-covered boards. Very fine in very fine dust jacket. Eight years before Covid, Quammen warned us about the dangers of zoonosis, or the cross species transfer of disease. Breathless directly address the science and history of Covid. Quammen did little in the way of publicity and appearances for this book. He did a pre-publication appearance at Town Hall in Seattle in mid-September. Our copy was signed and dated 2.5 weeks before publication. Breathless was a Finalist for the 2022 National Book Award. Song of the Dodo was awarded the 1997 John Burroughs Medal for Nature Writing, the 1996 New York Public Library/Helen Bernstein Award, and the 1996 BP Natural World Book Prize. It was Selected One of the Eight Best Books of 1996 by The New York Times Book Review. Boilerplate Rhino won the 2001 PEN/Spielvogel-Diamonstein Award for the Art of the Essay. Spillover was Winner of the 2013 Science and Society Book Award, given by the National Association of Science Writers. Also Winner of the 2013 Society of Biology Book Award in General Biology, and Finalist for the 2013 Andrew Carnegie Medals for Excellence in Fiction and Nonfiction.
