The author blurb tells us that Jose Yglesias was born in Tampa, Florida of a Spanish father and a Cuban mother and drew heavily upon his Hispanic heritage in his writings. This was his last novel. From the publisher's blurb: ''Rudy Pardo, retire fire chief and guardian of order, comes upon a young African American apparently burglarizing his house.
