New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1934. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. First edition stated, first printing. Bound in publisher's buff cloth stamped in red. Near Fine. Cloth toned along top edge, lightly foxed along rear joint, lightly bruised at head. Previous owner bookplate to front paste down. Else a lovely copy in a Very Good silver foil dust jacket with price intact, surface scratches and edge wear with chipping at the spine ends and a short tear with an associated crease along the bottom edge of the rear panel. Appel's first book, a proletarian hard boiled novel, published with a fragile silver foil jacket which is difficult to find in presentable condition.
