1791 Book. Good. Hardcover. Bound volume containing three items relating to the Birmingham riots of 1791. 1. An authentic account of the riots in Birmingham on the 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th days of July 1791; with the trails of the rioters, and an impartial collection of letters &c. Written by the supporters of the establishment and the dissenters, in consequence of the tumults. The second edition To which is now added an appendix, containing papers omitted in the first part or since published; likewise the claims of the suffererd and the verdicts of the juries. The whole compiled in order to preserve to posterity the genuine particulars and connnexions of an event which attracted the attention of Europe. Printed (for the compiler) and sold by J. Belcher in Deritend viii, 76, 36 pages. ESTC T79577 Heavily spotted 2. 8 pages containing descriptions of the houses destroyed or damaged. Written in French. Would originally have been issued with plates illustrating the houses. Half the page would have had the English description, the other half the French - here just the French part. The text is closely trimmed to the fore edge 3. Authentic copy. The report of the trials of the rioters at the Assizes held at Warwick August 20 1791 before the Right Hon Mr Baron Perryn. Taken in shorthand by Marsom & Ramsey. By order of the Committee of Protestant Dissenters in Birmingham. Birmingham: printed by John Thompson [iv], 156 pages. ESTC N15964, here without the half title page. Some spotting and staining, mainly at the start and finish. Re-bound in modern half leather. There is an old description of the contents to one of the front free end papers.
