London: Baldwin, Cradock & Joy, undated. An early or perhaps first edition, although undated (was first published in the 1820s). Hardcover book . Quarter Leather, marbled paper covered boards; marbled endpapers and edges. Decorative engraved title page. Unpaginated, but consists of beautiful hand coloured engravings of 96 cultivated/garden plants in 24 plates, with text about each plant on following pages, and short Preface. Details of origin worldwide and the date of first introduction to Britain are given. The plates have wide margins. Note this is Volume 1 only. Full title: The Botanic Garden; consisting of Highly Finished Representations of Hardy Ornamental Flowering Plants, Cultivated in Great Britain; with their Classification, History , Culture and other Interesting Information. Pages are very good, the plates bright and clean, most pages clean, some foxing to a few and a few marks. Covers only attached by the back board/hinge, the front endpaper and adjoining sheet are detached; the covers are also very rubbed and worn. A Good copy. Pictures available.
