Clarendon Press, 1950. First edition thus. Cloth. Very Good/Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. 1st edition thus. 1950; 1952. 2 sets: 6 volume set, complete, and 3 volume set, complete. 8vos. all volumes uniformly bound in red cloth and tan dust jackets. The dj's have tanned spines; two volumes have a small chip on the spine. All dj's are price clipped. Text block edges slightly tanned; volume 3 has a bumped corner. Text clean. Volume 1 (Life) has a notation: "seen and approved by L.F.Powell on Sept. 1962"- possibly signed. Publisher's booklet laid in volume 1 (Life). All dust jackets now protected in a mylar sleeve. Two Very Good sets in Very Good dust jackets.
