Book Club, London, 1949. Reprint. Hardcover. Good Condition/Poor. Yellow coloured cloth boards with black titles to the backstrip. Illustrated dustwrapper, illustrator not credited with red and blue coloured titles to the front panel and blue titles to the backstrip. " Coming home after four years absence Jeff Burke experienced no thrill of pleasure for he faced a stern reckoning with his father, the grim tyrannical shandy Burke who had tried to rule his son just as ruthlessly as he ruled the town of Boomerang and all of the Union County of which he was sheriff and pinchbeck dictator." -- from the verso of the half title page. Softening and discolouration to the backstrip edges and to the book corners. A few marks to the cloth of the boards and there is cocking of the spine. Light browning and foxing to the text block edges. Browning and foxing to the endpapers and for the internal pages are also brown with foxing, foxing more concentrated to the first few and last few pages of the book. Previous owner's name to the lower edge of the free front endpapers, in blue ink. There is a line, 3 inches long, going diagonally from the top right-hand corner of the free front end paper, again in blue coloured ink. The spine has cracked between the three front end paper and half title page, and the underlying webbing is visible. Rubbing to be dustwrapper corners and rubbing and creasing to the dustwrapper edges. Numerous tears to both the top and bottom dustwrapper edges and there is a triangular piece missing from the lower dustwrapper edge of the rear dustwrapper panel. A previous owner has supported the numerous tears with the placement of pieces of white paper attached to the verso of the dustwrapper. Rubbing, handling marks and creasing to the dustwrapper panels. Browning and foxing to the verso of the dustwrapper. Clipping of the dustwrapper, front fold over, lower right hand corner. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. IV, 5-160 pages..
