About This Item
GARDEN CITY, NEW YORK: DOUBLEDAY, DORAN AND COMPANY, INC., 1932 NICE LOOKING DARK BLUE COVER, GREEN DESIGN AND PRINT FRONT AND SPINE, DULL WATER STAIN LOWER RIGHT FRONT CORNER, FIRST INSIDE BLANK PAGE MISSING, NICE AND TIGHT, NO INTERNAL MARKINGS. AUSTRALIAN AUTHOR. .Helen de Guerry Simpson (1 December 1897 ¿ 14 October 1940) was an Australian novelist and British Liberal Party politician. Two of her novels have Australian content, Boomerang (1932), winner of the James Tait Black Memorial Prize, and Under Capricorn (1937); and The Woman on the Beast (1933), a trio of fantastic novellas. It was not until Boomerang was published in 1932 that Helen Simpson came into her own. Here was a long, rambling novel in which the plot began in Paris at the end of the eighteenth century, wandered all over the world, including Australia, and ended in the trenches in France during World War I. It was awarded the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for fiction and serialized for radio by William Power in 1937. ANTIQUE BOOKS DEN, WHERE HISTORY LIVES.
