About This Item
London: J. M. Dent & Sons Ltd., 1956. First Edition . Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. The interior of the book is clean and bright, with few signs of previous use. The frontispiece is present. The green covers are clean and bright with minor wear at edges and corners. The dust jacket is in Very Good condition, with light edgewear and some nicks to corners and the top and bottom of the spine. Four pieces of repair tape have been placed on the back of the jacket to stop the nicks from spreading. The attached scan shows this in detail. The jacket is now in protective mylar. Synopsis: The story opens in the living-room of the Four Masters' Bookshop on Ormond Quay in Dublin.... Into this setting, with the picturesque figure of Dean Swift and the misty spire of St Patrick's in the background, comes the young hero of the story, Shane Madden, an orphan who has run away from his home in the country in search of his dashing but unreliable hero, Uncle Tom.
