Yellow coloured cloth covered boards with green Chinese calligraphy to the top left-hand corner of the front panel and green titles to the backstrip. Green coloured tint to the top text block edge. Bumping and rubbing to the backstrip edges and to the book corners. Browning, rubbing and foxing to the book edges and book panels. Sunning, causing noticeable groundless, to the backstrip. Browning and foxing to the text block edges and Browning to the internal text. Browning and foxing to the endpapers and the top right-hand corner of the front free endpaper shows insect damage. Previous owner's name to the top edge of the free front endpaper. The remains of the sticker can be seen to the top left-hand corner of the front paste-down. A book first published in German and translated by J.J. Saville Garner. A novel set in ancient China and about the life and afterlife of the merchant Shu Yee. This is the First USA Edition.
