Description:
Presumed First Edition, First printing thus. Bookplate. Good. Format is approximately 4 inches by 6.5 inches. The image is approximately 1.75 inches by 4.25 inches. This is a bookplate of a feminine looking (long hair, slender body) knight in armor among trees with 'from the library of' beneath the image but no name present. A bookplate (or book-plate, as it was commonly styled until the early 20th century), also known as ex-libris (Latin for "from the books (or library) of"), is usually a small printed or decorative label pasted into a book, often on the front endpaper, to indicate ownership. Simple typographical bookplates are termed "book labels". Bookplates typically bear a name, motto, device (coat-of-arms), crest, badge, or another motif that relates to the owner of the book, or is requested by the owner from an artist or designer. The name of the owner usually follows an inscription such as "from the books of..." or "from the library… Read More

Description:
Presumed First Edition, First printing thus. Bookplate. Good. Format is approximately 2 inches by 3.25 inches. Image size is approximately 1.75 inches by 3 inches. This is a small bookplate with a kneeling man (seems African) before a seated, helmeted woman. In a box below the image there is at the top "EX LIBRIS" and below where a name or signature would go there is the quotation from Shakespeare "wisdom to gold prefer". This may actually be an error, as this quotation could not be assigned to Shakespeare via an Internet search but does appear to be close to the quotation in Proverbs 16:16 "How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!" This phrase "Ex Libris" is at the center of the image. Nearby is a small quadrant that has the number '15' in the upper left, the letter 'c' in the upper right, the letter 'm' in the lower left, and the number '30' in the lower right. There is a curved line of text on the right side believed to be in Russian. . Presumed First Edition, First printing thus. Bookplate. Good. Format is approximately 3.25 inches by 3.5 inches. The image is a circle with a diameter of approximately 2 inches. This bookplate does not appear to have been affixed to a book. This is a bookplate with a quotation from Moliere on the outer band ("Que Pensez--Vous de Cette comedie" [What do you think of this Comedy] Moliere. Then there is the image of an American Indian (Iroquois, Mohawk, some Eastern tribe) holding a mask or totem, and the initials B and M on either side of the Indian. The name/initials of the artist are at the bottom of the circle's outer ring and in script below the circle.
