London: The King Penguin Books, 1950. First edition, 1950. Hardback. 40 pages of text followed by 16 pages of colour illustrations. Dust jacket in a protective sleeve. Professor Richards wrote this small book to describe the life history of a moss and the homes of mosses. It gives all the necessary information for collecting, identifying and cultivating mosses. The book is illustrated by plates reproduced from Johannes Hedwig's 'Descriptio et adumbratio microspico-analytica muscorum frondsorum', which was published in Germany 1787 - 97. Book in very good condition. Previous owner's signature to front pastedown, otherwise unmarked and very clean & bright. Dust jacket good. and unclipped. Some light edge wear - especially to extremities of spine and corners. Small closed tears to top edges of front and back. Spine discoloured together with a small area of front. Slight toning to endpapers.
