A Very Good book in a Very Good dust jacket. 8vo., 176 pp., with black & while illustrations by Vawter. Bound in publishers deep burgundy cloth with titles and decorative border in gilt. Full color, illustrated dust jacket. Jacket is mildly soiled/tanned, some red staining to upper back cover, minor chips to top of spine. Gilt on cover and spine has darkened, first 30 pages show remnants of a damp stain in upper corner, otherwise clean and unmarked. A SCARCE title in the even more SCARCE dust jacket. James Whitcomb Riley was an American writer, poet, and best-selling author. During his lifetime he was known as the "Hoosier Poet" and "Children's Poet" for his dialect works and his children's poetry. His poems tend to be humorous or sentimental.

John William Vawter, from Greenfield, Indiana, was an American landscape artist and illustrator known for his broad strokes and loose Impressionist style.
