Diamond 48mo. 414 + 190 unnumbered pages (lacking final leaf of Psalms table; some offsetting or age-toning on title page). Charming contemporary ink inscription facing title page on blank preliminary page. Inner gilt dentelles. All edges gilt. 52 x 93mm. Contemporary or very slightly later tan calf; spine in compartments with scrolling gilt floral devices, similar cornerpieces and decorative horizontal borders above and below gilt titling. Covers with blind pointille borders within gilt rules with floral cornerpieces , borders that match the spine , all within double fillet gilt rules (corners and hinges very lightly rubbed). Provenance:"Harriet Whitwell, born March 14th, 1834 Christened St. Mary's, Islington March 8th, 1835. Born 7 minutes past 11 o'clock Night" -making Harriet a Pisces (no further information)! Poets Nahum Tate and Nicholas Brady produced this famous work, New Version of the Psalms of David in 1696, a metrical version of the Psalms that largely supplanted T. Sternhold and J. Hopkins' old version. Tate & Brady's version of Psalm 34 is still regularly sung today, "Through all the changing scenes of life". Not in Bondy, nor Spielmann, nor Welsh. This precise imprint not found in WorldCat.
