New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1888. First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine. Publisher's maroon cloth, lettered in orange and gilt. Cable's first work on the Arcadians (Cajuns) in the bayou country west of New Orleans. SIGNED by the author on a front blank: "Yours truly/G. W. Cable/Auburn Dec. 3, 1888" below a rather faded owner inscription dated June the same year by Shirley Snow.
