Dublin: The Cuala Press, 1939. 2nd edition; according to Wade, Mrs. Yeats said that only about 4 copies of the first edition were printed. Pale blue card covers tanned toward edges. No signs of ownership, text clean. Very good. Wade 202, Miller p. 122 #4.

Dublin: Cuala Press, 1939. Second Edition. Trade paperback. Near fine. Yeats last prose work; he completed revising the proofs but never saw the finished book. The first edition was ready in July 1939, but Yeats' family, who ran the Cuala Press, were unhappy with the print quality; they pulped the edition and had it reprinted (this second edition). Colin Smythe, Yeats' bibliographer, has located seven surviving copies of the first edition, although the Internet insists on repeating that the number is four copies; either way, not very many, but check your facts or give a source, folks. See "The Textual History of Yeats's On the Boiler" by William O'Donnell, especially footnote 68. On the Border is a scattershot text, that jumps from the coming war, Irish politics and history, Irish immigration, and lands in poetry and a short dramatic scene in blank verse. 46 pages, [1 ad page, one blank]. Second edition. A near fine copy in yapped-edge wrappers.

Book is in Fair condition, with edgewear/curling to cover. Cover coming away from binding, seems to have been glued at some point on the back hinge.
Rather extensive note written on half-title page, a bit of history about the book. Rusty paperclip marks at the tops of pages in four places. Text pages otherwise clean. All pages still attached, but some cracking in places.

Dublin: The Cuala Press, 1939. [1939] 46 pages. For all practical purposes, this is the first edition because all except for 4 copies of the first printing were destroyed by Yeats' wife. The book is mostly prose on a variety of topics, but it does include the first published appearance of the one-act play in verse, "Purgatory." The book is clean and attractive in the original blue wraps decorated with a front cover illustration by Jack B. Yeats. One 1 very tiny closed tear at fore-edge of front & back covers; a hint of faint tanning at edges of cover; a single spot of foxing on front cover; a tiny rust spot from a paper clip in inside front cover & half-title page. Better than it sounds, and overall a nice copy of an increasingly scarce book.. Second Edition. Paperback. Collectible-Very Good/No Dust Jacket, as Issued. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Book.
