[8x9.25"]; [1], viii, 409 pp. [1], frontispiece engraving of battle of Lake Champlain, 71 engravings on plates and illustrations in text; Dark blue and cream buckram over covers with embossed gilt lettering on front and spine, embossed gilt illustration of sailor climbing the ropes up the mast on front; Some shelf wear, rubbing and light soiling to covers, edges and corners, corners bumped, spine faded and rubbed, pp. 103 to 108 loose. A detailed account of the forgotten War of 1812, also known as the second revolutionary war. This was a confusing short war that President Madison was forced into. It was about impressment of US merchant ships, British use of natives to harass and limit western expansion and defiance of the British slave trade ban. This book is a detailed account of naval actions during the two and a half year war.
