About This Item

The Detective Book Club produced volumes of three crime novels from 1942 to 1999. Originally monthly, near the end they dwindled down to just a few per year. Many famous detective and crime novelists had their early works featured in DBC editions. Often, books were published in DBC editions before, or at the same time as they were published in mass market form. A little about our authors:

Janwillem van de Wetering: A Dutch writer who wrote both in Dutch and English, van de Wetering was the author of 16 mysteries, four nonfiction books, three children's books and one collection of shorts. His mysteries were all in the Grijpstra - de Gier series, taking place in or near Amsterdam. Van de Wetering died in 2008. This is the sixth novel in the series.

Anne Morice: Morice wrote 25 mysteries, 23 in her Tessa Crichton series, and two in her Tubby Wiseman series, which ended with her death in 1989. This is the eleventh Tessa Critchton novel.

Hugh Pentecost: A pen name of Judson Philips, a man of many detectives. Under both names, Philips published over 100 books, most of which were in one of eight different series. The largest series featured Pierre Chambrun with 23 books. In spite of all these series, almost a quarter of his books were stand-alone novels. This is the thirteenth Pierre Chambrun novel.

Synopsis

Janwillem van de Wetering (1931–2008) was born and raised in Rotterdam, but lived most recently in Surry, Maine. He served as a member of the Amsterdam Special Constabulary and was once a Zen Buddhist monk. He is renowned for his detective fiction, including Outsider in Amsterdam , The Corpse on the Dike , The Japanese Corpse , and eleven other books in the Grijpstra and de Gier series.
