About This Item

UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn.FINE/FINE.No owner inscrptn, and no price-clip to dw/dj.Bright, crisp, clean, matt, photographic illustrated dw/dj with silver+red letters to upper panel; with negligible shelf-wear and creasing to edges and corners - no nicks or tears present. Miniscule bumping with reciprocal creasing to head of spine/ backstrip, front free endpaper with a faint oblique crease to same from a previous careless closure of the book at some stage/time,whilst a production-fault wrinkle beneath the rear pastedown has left a concomitant indent to verso of facing rear free endpaper.Top+fore-edges lightly aged/ toned but clean without foxing; contents bright, tight, solid and sound - pristine - no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corner tips - it certainly appears unread! Publisher's bright,crisp,clean,sharp-cornered,original silver, textured cloth boards with bright, crisp, blocked black ink letters to spine/ backstrip and immaculate plain red endpapers.UK, 8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn,2-321pp [paginated] includes explanatory foreword by Stephen King (for Richard Bachman - King's pseudonym),24 chapters and a short story 'Memory' by King towards the rear. [Story originally appeared in Vol.7, No. 4 of 'Tin House', the Summer 2006 issue. It is the seed from which has grown a much longer tale,'Duma Key', which Hodder will publish in 2008.] 'Blaze' originally written in 1973 and published in 2007.] See also,my book ID rja1091323 for another UK,8vo HB+dw/dj,1st edn of this same title.
BIG MOTHER
At 6'7" and built like a bear,Clay Blaisdell is one big mother, but his capers are strictly small-time until he meets George Rackley.George instroduces him to a hundred cons and the one big score that every small timer dreams of: kidnap.
The Gerards are filthy rich, and their child, the last twig on the family tree, could be worth millions. And after all a baby can't ID you,so you can return it alive.
There's only one problem: when the time comes for the deal to go down,George, the brains of the partnership, has died.Or has he?
COLD TERROR
Now Blaze is running into the teeth of a howling storm and the cops are closing in.
He's got a baby as a hostage,and the Crime
of the Century just turned into a race against time in the white hell of the Maine woods.
Lost for years amongst Stephen King's papers,
and published now for the first time ever, 'Blaze' is a heartstopping thriller reminiscent of Steinbeck's 'Of Mice and Men' with the power of a noir fable.

Synopsis

The last of the Richard Bachman novels, recently recovered and published for the first time. Stephen King's "dark half" may have saved the best for last. A fellow named Richard Bachman wrote Blaze in 1973 on an Olivetti typewriter, then turned the machine over to Stephen King, who used it to write Carrie. Bachman died in 1985 ("cancer of the pseudonym"), but in late 2006 King found the original typescript of Blaze among his papers at the University of Maine's Fogler Library ("How did this get here?!"), and decided that with a little revision it ought to be published. Blaze is the story of Clayton Blaisdell, Jr. -- of the crimes committed against him and the crimes he commits, including his last, the kidnapping of a baby heir worth millions. Blaze has been a slow thinker since childhood, when his father threw him down the stairs -- and then threw him down again. After escaping an abusive institution for boys when he was a teenager, Blaze hooks up with George, a seasoned criminal who thinks he has all the answers. But then George is killed, and Blaze, though haunted by his partner, is on his own. He becomes one of the most sympathetic criminals in all of literature. This is a crime story of surprising strength and sadness, with a suspenseful current sustained by the classic workings of fate and character -- as taut and riveting as Stephen King's The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon.
