About This Item

London: Eyre & Spottiswoode, 1937. First edition. Cloth. Near Fine/Very Good Indeed. 9" by 6". None. An very bright first edition copy of the founding father of Vorticism Wyndham Lewis' autobiography. With the publisher's original unclipped dustwrapper.Wyndham Lewis co-founded the artistic Vorticist movement and edited their literary magazine BLAST. A talented artist, playwright and creative, this work is the first of two autobiographical works. He later issued 'Rude Assignment' in 1950. This novel follows the period of 1914-1926 and tracks his life through the First World War as well as cultural movements such as Modernism. This work is cited as being the first by Lewis to mention the 'Men of 1914' group of himself, Ezra Pound, T.S. Eliot and James Joyce. Illustrated, with a frontispiece and 13 plates by Lewis. A lovely copy of this work, with the dustwrapper in a relatively unblemished condition which is unusual. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally, very smart. Small mark to the spine. Dustwrapper is very smart. Minor sunning to the spine and edges of the wrap, as is common with this work. Minor edge-wear to the wrapper, including a tiny closed tear to the head of front wrapper. Dustwrapper is not spotted. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright. Minor offsetting to the endpaper. Otherwise, pages are clean. Near Fine
