BINDING/CONDITION: light greenish-gray cloth; the cloth is browned and rubbed at the spine ends, no markings, the hinges are sound, the outside edges of the text block are age darkened, the inner pages show no sign of toning; a Good book, with a Poor dust jacket; publisher's price on the jacket flap is intact. The front panel is largely intact, with good color, a piece missing from the bottom spine about one by two inches, large piece missing from the top spine/rear panel: about three by three inches.. 8vo (about 8 inches tall) . Description: Dust jacket art by Zaccone. This bears the ''First Edition'' statement on the copyright page and a 1944 date on the title page. A wartime edition, with a wartime compliance statement on the synopsis page, and a Buy Bonds ad on the rear flap of the jacket, and a mailing label at bottom so readers could ship the book to the U.S.O. Library for a serviceman. A Crime Club selection in their ''Character and Atmosphere'' category.
