About This Item
Little, Brown & Co, 1947. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. Stated first edition, 1947. Hardcover book without dust jacket, neither ex-library nor marked as a remainder. Exterior has bumping, scuffing, sunning to spine, and some damp-staining. Binding is reasonably strong and all signatures are intact; a little cracking at half-title page. Text block is free of markings and highlighting; owner's name on endpaper. All leaves are intact; no dog-ears, but some pages have crease at top. Top edge stained tan. 324 page, no illustrations.

Sachs went from Europe to Johannesburg to work at a mental hospital for black Africans, desiring to meet them as human beings. Fortune led him to a witch doctor--a nganga, a diviner and herbalist--who decided to learn Western medicine to top his nganga competitors. Sachs tells the story of the witch doctor in this warm and compelling volume. Heavy books or multi-volume sets will require additional postage.
