A smart first edition of this ornithological study of Berkshire and Buckinghamshire, a popular work written by the author at the age of sixteen. First edition. Attributed as the first ornithological field guide to use photographs as illustrations, this work contains a colour frontispiece and three colour plates. Collated complete. This study provides further detail on the natural history of Buckinghamshire and Berkshire. With chapters on residential birds, summer and winter visitors, spring and autumnal visitors, rare or accidental visitors, and more. Includes a detailed index. Written by Alexander William Maxwell Clark Kennedy, an English ornithologist, travel writer, and Captain of the Coldstream Guards. This was his first published work, written at the age of sixteen during his schooling at Eton. Bound by Burn & Co., Kirby Street. In the original blue cloth binding. Externally, smart with rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine and marks to the boards. Front hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound with the tissue guard to the frontispiece loosening. Pages are bright with the odd spot or handling mark. Light spotting to the endpapers. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper. Bound by Burn & Co., Kirby Street. Good
