London: John Murray, 1938. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. First UK Edition. 270 pages with index plus two pages of ads. Publisher's blue boards with cream paper label lettered in gilt on spine. With 3 coloured illustrations, 12 half-tones and 2 Maps (all present). Blue top-edge. Introduction by Apsley Cherry-Garrard. Boards exceptionally bright and clean; a contemporary gift inscription on the front free end-paper; half-title offset (as usually found).. Overall a VG (or slightly better) copy. In the RARE dustwrapper priced 10s 6d net to the inside flap (as called for). The dustwrapper is VG with a triangular chip from the bottom edge of the front panel that removes most of the AP of APSLEY. A biography of Lt. Henry Robertson (Birdie) Bowers (1883-1912), who was among the men who died with Robert Falcon Scott's polar party on the ill-fated Terra Nova expedition of 1910-1913 on its return from the South Pole. Uncommon in dustwrapper in first edition.
