New York: Dodd, Mead & Company, 1906. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good+. Small 4to. [10], 1-74 pp. Blue cloth with decorations in white and gold lettering on the front board and spine, an inset decoration on the front board: an illustration of a young boy cradling a duck, done by Wilcox Smith; top edge gilt. Illustrated with a frontispiece and three plates by Jesse Wilcox Smith and with decorated endpapers, pastedowns, and each page with decorations by Robert McQuinn. Originally published in Collier's Weekly, this is the first trade edition enhanced by Wilcox Smith's tender depictions of young children learning about the world around them. The gutter starting in one spot, the leaves with an occasional spot of foxing.
