Description:
Helsinki: Schildts, 1994. Illustrated Edition . Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First thus, the revised edition. When first published in 1968 Tove Jansson insisted that her first foray into adult's literature would not include illustrations of any kind - so intent was she in distancing herself from the Moomins. By 1994 she had mellowed somewhat and agreed to the inclusion of photographs from her own family archives as well as one of her own drawings for this new edition. The original Schildts Swedish language editions of Tove Jansson's works are always the most difficult to locate due to their comparatively tiny print-runs and this one is no exception - very hard to find and particularly in such superb condition as this one. pp. 167, illustrated, Fine in Fine dustjacket.

Description:
Helsinki: Schildts, 1968. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Fine. First Edition. The rarest of all Tove Jansson's first editions, the first trade edition of Sculptor's Daughter. As the publisher to whom she submitted her manuscripts Schildts were nervous about this departure from the Moomins series, particularly as the author refused point-blank to illustrate the book. As a small Finnish publishing house which caters only for the Swedish-speaking minority in that country it is likely that no more than 500 copies were printed. In the event, demand exceeded supply and Schildts published a second edition the following year. Incredibly hard-to-find, only the second copy to have passed through our hands in 30 years. A Fine copy in the publisher's 1/4 cloth with handsome marbled boards, pp. 146 with index at the rear. Exceptionally clean with strong gilt titles, no bumping of the extremities, square and tight. The most minor of creasing at the crown. A beautiful copy.

1968. Helsingfors; Gebers, Almqvist & Wiksell. 1968. 8vo.; original maize-coloured cloth with lettering in black to spine, in pictorial dustwrapper; pp. [vi], 7-146 + [iii]; a fine, uninscribed copy protected by a near fine dustwrapper, priced 23:50 to lower panel; scarce. First Swedish edition; also published in the same year in Finnish by Schildt. The following year an edition by Albert Bonniers, in Stockholm, was issued, together with the first English translation, which was published by Ernest Benn. This critically acclaimed autobiography by the author and artist Tove Jansson is both a memoir and, as the writer Ali Smith puts it, "a book of superb stories". It describes her experiences growing up in a bourgeois, yet bohemian, environment at Skatudden in Helsinki and her summer life in the archipelago. Written throughout in beautifully evocative prose it offers "a glimpse of the mysteries of winter ice, the bonhomie of balalaika parties and the vastness of Christmas viewed…

When first published in 1968, Tove Jansson insisted that her first foray into adult's literature would not include illustrations of any kind - so intent was she in distancing herself from the Moomins. Description:
New York: Random House, 1959. Book. Illus. by Sam March (dust jacket design). Very Good. Hardcover. First Edition.. Small octavo. Humes's second novel, following 'The Underground City,' both of which led to his being considered by Esquire magazine as having the same promise as two obscure guys named Updike and Styron (whoever they are). Anyway, he met a guy named Leary who introduced him to a little substance known as LSD, and after seriously indulging his fondness for the hallucinogen he became a trifle paranoid and a bit delusional, which pretty much ended his writing career. Humes was co-founder (with Peter Matthiessen and George Plimpton) of The Paris Review. He died of prostate cancer in 1992. Black cloth w/gilt lettering, 184 pages. Mildly cocked, light general wear, in price-clipped dust jacket w/light rubbing, light edgewear, creases to fore-edges of both flaps..
