Oxford University Press, London, 1940. Reprint. Hardcover. Very Good Condition/Good. Illustrator: Howard Leigh and Alfred Sindall. Colour illustrated frontispiece by Howard Leigh. The text is illustrated with black and white full-page drawings executed by either Howard Leigh or Alfred Sindall. Blue coloured cloth covered boards with black coloured embossed titles and decoration to the front panel and back strip. Colour illustrated dustwrapper with black coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. British ships were going missing in the Indian Ocean, ostensibly lost in tropical storms, but, each is sending out an SOS prior to being lost. Biggles, on the other hand, finds the messages from the ships peculiar and reasons that the loss of the ships are neither accident nor storm based. So he, Algy, Lacey and Ginger set out to investigate. Softening and rubbing of the back strip edges; with rubbing of the top book corner and lower book edges. Sunning of the back strip and a little to the front panel. Tanning of the text block edges and age toning of the pages. Offset tanning to the end pages. Chipping to the dustwrapper corners and lower back strip edge. The top back strip edge is missing the top quarter inch. There is a 1 inch tear to the top edge of the front panel which has a transfer tear to the back strip edge  with associated creasing  please see photograph. Fading of the back strip with rubbing of the dustwrapper panels and handling marks to the rear panel. Some tears and nicks to the rear dustwrapper edges. Size: 12mo (Small Hardcover).
