About This Item

This small volume was published as a supplemental to the December 1922 issue of Massey-Harris Illustrated magazine. This periodical was published six times a year beginning as early as 1881, and contained articles of interest to farmers and those living in rural Canada.

The author, Archie P. McKishnie, was a prolific Canada writer. Born in New Scotland, Ontario, he published his first novel in 1907. He went on to become the editor of the dramatic section of the Sunday World paper in Toronto, as well as the director of the short-story writing program at Shaw school. Many of this short stories appeared in MacLean's magazine.

Big John Wallace presents a romantic view of the settlement of Canadian wilderness by Scottish immigrants. It is told in the first person from the perspective of John Wallace who, at the age of 75, is looking back on his life after a birthday party in his honour.

This volume is in good condition. It is bound in paper covers with a stapled spine, and there is a small tear in the cover from one of the staples. There is also some slight staining to the back cover. Internally the book is in excellent condition, and the text is augmented with occasional line drawings.
