Wraps, 298pp, B&W photos. Birrell was a founding director of the Nanton Lancaster Society which developed and operates the Bomber Command Museum of Canada. JOe McCarthy was an American who joined the RCAF and did a tour of operations with the 97 Squadron. The Dambusters have been immortalised in World War Two folklore and film as a result of their attack on the dams of the Ruhr. The Dambusters were an elite Lancaster bomber unit . Formation No. 2, numbering five aircraft, piloted by Flt Lt Joe McCarthy, P/O Vernon Byers (RCAF),[13] Flt Lt Norman Barlow (RAAF), P/O Geoff Rice[14] and Flt Lt Les Munro (RNZAF), was to attack the Sorpe Dam .(1.5 JM LVR 201/b2. 1st.
