About This Item

Somerset House, Teaneck, 1973 one-volume microprint reprint of 1927-34 first edition. Cloth, folio, 37 cm,. unpaginated, approximately 5000 pp reproduced 12 to a page. Photographically reduced reprint of the 10 volume original edition published in Paris by M. Plée, 1927-34. Breslauer and Folter. : "In spite of its imperfections, this is the only comprehensive bibliography of rare first and early editions of the most important French authors from the fifteenth to the eighteenth centuries extant. It stops with 'Voiture', Voltaire having obviously presented too difficult a task which, in addition, had already been tackled exhaustively by G. Bengesco. The real author was Mme.Tchemerzine; her husband, mathematician and ex-colonel of the Imperial Russian Army, occupied himself with the reproduction of the title-pages. Boards a trifle rubbed, otherwise Very Good.
