About This Item
Edinburgh: Ballantyne, Hanson & Co, 1879. Bewick, Thomas. Octavo. xl, 384pp. One of 100 copies. A deluxe reprinting of the Newcastle Edition by Thomas Saint in 1784. Bewick's engravings, with their classic compositions and sharp details, here adorn an array of fables. This edition included more of Bewick's illustrations, gathered from his primary and secondary works, at the rear. Printed on Whatman paper, with text pages bordered in red rules. Bound in half brown leather with gilt tooling. Some edgewear, mild soiling to edge of text block, insubstantial foxing to outermost flyleaves, else near fine.
