Fine-looking, structurally sound set of two hardcover copies, little discernible wear to the two-tone covers, handsomely bound, with silver lettering to covers and spines, with bright interiors, unmarked in both cases. Bright and shiny dust jackets, illustrated, little worn, though one is sunned a bit from brown to burgundy. Many, many score black-and-white illustrations and photographs of the influential novelist, playwrite, poet, and literary critic, his lovers and wife and family, and literary luminaries from Hillaire Belloc to G.K. Chesterton. Volume 1: viii [2], 3-486 pp.; Volume 2: ix [2], 3-421 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets.

Synopsis

Michael Holroyd was born in 1935 and is half-Swedish and partly Irish. Recognised as one of the greatest biographers of our time, he is the author of acclaimed biographies of Hugh Kingsmill, Lytton Strachey, Augustus John, and Shaw. He was awarded the CBE in 1989. Born in London, he now lives in London and Somerset and is married to author Margaret Drabble.
