Book very gently read and was bought in 1941. Book Interior FINE / Boards Near Fine / Dust Jacket Good Plus. Rag edge pages. Boards and spine are blue-grey cloth, lettering on spine is black in red boxes with Knopf and pictorial in black with no red boxes, lettering on cover is black BERLIN red Diary, pictorial black all inside a red outline. Spine is straight, square, solid, no edge wear. Dust jacket is blue/white, lettering white, blue/red painting by Salter on front and almost full size black/white photo on back. Dust jacket is NOT PRICE CLIPPED, has noticeable age darkening on flap folds and top and bottom edges of flaps, has some age darkening of the white back of dj and a bit on the dj spine, back dj flap fold is worn but not worn through and has a 1/4 inch rip at bottom and a small chip at top. Back of dj has a bit of light shelf soil in places and two 1/4 inch rips on top edge. DJ spine has some chipping to the colour on the back edge and small chips to bottom edge, and the top edge has some creases and a 5/8, 1/2 and 1/4 inch rip, DJ front cover has a 1/4 and 3/8 inch rip on bottom edge and a small bit of colourless picks like from a compass point in two areas each about 1 inch long but did not break the paper, DJ front flap has a small chip of paper missing at bottom of flap fold and a slightly bigger piece out of top of flap fold, and a few small chips of colour off the vertical front flap fold. Book has minimal edge wear. Book boards and spine are flat, clean, bright, no rips, no bent corners, no spine creases, no noticeable sunning, a tiny bit of edge wear on bottom free end of spine. Page edges on top were red now sunned down to pink, side and bottom cream, slightly sunned. Inner end papers are white. Inside of book is tight, clean, bright, clear, flat. Small bit of age darkening inside covers and on edges of some pages. Owner’s name and July 1941 in fountain ink on ffep. No photos, no illustrations.
