She was born at Ivanhoe Place in Bangor on Aug. 28, 1913. In 1935 she received a bachelor's degree from Michigan State. Her graduate work included a master's degree from Columbia University in 1945 and a doctorate in Education/English from Michigan State in 1955. Between 1935 and 1972 she taught high school home economics and English in Michigan, Oregon, Germany and Japan. While in Japan she married Henry D. Anastasas in 1965. They had met Oct. 19, 1949, while both were living in Germany. After she retired from teaching in 1972, she authored three books. She and her husband moved to Palo Alto in 1977 when he retired as an architect for the government. She wrote poetry all her life and once said she hoped to write more sonnets than Shakespeare! She estimated that she had taught 5,000 students over a thirty-four year career. Belshazzar was Co-regent of Babylon, governing the country after his father, King Nabonidus, went into exile in 550 BCE. Belshazzar died after Babylon fell to the Persians in 539 BCE. According to the Book of Daniel, Belshazzar holds a last great feast at which he sees a hand writing on a wall with the Aramaic words mene, mene, tekel, upharsin, which Daniel interprets as a judgment from God foretelling the fall of Babylon. A historically accurate novel about Babylonian history and the "writing on the wall" seen by Prince Belshazzar.
