About This Item
Illustrated by A.Forrester. Adam and Charles Black. London. 1908. 8vo, XXVI, 390pp. Hardcover with no d/w in good condition but with some insect scouring over all surfaces as well as minor shelf wear with front board and the sound spine elaborately embossed in gold and orange with no light damage, text in very good condition with all seventy-seven detailed colour illustrations and their annotated tissue guards present and in excellent condition, tanning of the front and rear endpapers is present but there is only one neat signature of a prior owner evident and the foldout map at the rear is intact and undamaged. This is another of the famous 20/- A & C Black Colour Books published between 1901 and 1921 apparently in competition with the Baedecker Guides of the time but this copy is not a first edition with the title page bearing a red, not a black, heraldic shield declaring it was one of many reprints that first year of publishing. Number 5 in the Inman Collector's Guide nevertheless it is a beautiful reminder of a bygone era of travel.
