The first edition of this work.Complete in three volumes.Half-title present to Volume I.A British topographical work on Reading, idealising the area in which Mitford grew up. A charming study into the neighbourhood and society of Reading.Written by Mary Russell Mitford, a topographical author best known for her village sketches 'Our Village'.Institutional labels and stamps of the Chambers Institutional Public Library. Stamp of Peebles Institutional Library to the title pages. In the original paper covered boards, rebacked with cloth spines. Externally, generally smart. Light marks and rubbing to the boards. Minor bumping to the head and tail of the spines and to the extremities. Institutional label to the tail of the spines. Small crack to the rear joint of Volume I. Hinges of Volume II are starting but firm. Institutional label to the front pastedowns, and recto to the front endpaper of Volume I. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with some odd spots and handling marks, marks heavier to Volume II. Stamp of Peebles Institutional Library to the title pages. Closed tear to page 3/4 of Volume III. Pages 25 to 46 of Volume II working loose, with , Very Good
